how can I associate a activation key to a host group or ??

Latest response

I am not really clear on how to attach a activation key to whatever it needs to be able to add subscription to a newly provisioned host.

right now I am able to provision a new host via PXE and TFTP and it will install Red Hat 7.1 but the new host will not be registered and will not have any subscriptions available to it .

I have looked thru all the instructions and I really am at a loss to figure out how to do this

it says on the activation key screen

This activation key may be used during system registration. For example:
subscription-manager register --org="sarod" --activationkey="SXE-PI-DEVEL-Activation-Key"

but how can I get it to automatically run this command and get it to subscribe???
thanks

Brian, can you confirm what you are connecting to? is it your own Satellite 6.x? or RHN?

Assuming you are using the default provisioning templates, all you need to do is associate the activation key with the hostgroup that you are using for provisioning. This is done via Configure -> Host Groups -> $NAME_OF_YOUR_HOSTGROUP -> Activation Keys

Alternatively, if you are a user of hammer, then can be done via

hammer hostgroup set-parameter \
   --name kt_activation_keys \
   --value SXE-PI-DEVEL-Activation-Key \
   --hostgroup '$NAME_OF_YOUR_HOSTGROUP "

Richard , thanks for that info , I am further along now , it seems to be registered

but now I am getting this error saying the subscrition status in "insufficient"

[root@jbosscontroller ~]# subscription-manager status +-------------------------------------------+ System Status Details +-------------------------------------------+ Overall Status: Insufficient

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform Self-Supported Business Partner NFR: - Guest has not been reported on any host and is using a temporary unmapped guest subscription

thanks again !!!!
