Manually starting redhat login

Latest response

I believe its called the gdm-simple-greeter, but what I am trying to so is manually start the login screen so I can leverage it through xrdp. Currently xrdp doesnt support smartcard login, whereas gdm does. If I can leverage the xrdp session with the proper login (smart card enabled) then this solution will provide exactly what is needed.

Hi Ron,

Just curious, which version of RHEL are you working on with this, I would suspect RHEL 6 or 7 workstation?

Thanks

Sorry didnt even think to define that. RHEL 6.4 updated to 6.6 currently .

Ron,

I see xrdp is available via EPEL for RHEL6... I've never used it, but I found this link at http://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/centos-how-tos/install-xrdp-remote-desktop-to-centos-6-rhel-6.html which may or may not help you... This xrdp is uncharted territory for me, maybe someone else from the community might be able to chime in on this if they have some info...

Also see this discussion at another forum where they believe they got this to work Is a firewall getting in your way?

I wish you good luck... here is a google search for xrdp and rhel6, minus the distraction of ubuntu

I appreciate the response, but I am already using xrdp (see original question). I'm more looking for the smartcard login via xrdp which is possible but not supported without some magic.

Ah - got it, sorry I missed that there. Hopefully someone who has had experience with this can chime in...
