Kernel update for RHEL6

Latest response

How can I get the new kernel as mentioned in the link below? I have a RHEL6 server that's using subscription manager and also registered with RHN. I have ran the usual yum updates and still am not getting the option for this kernel update although the advisory says its available.

If I can't get this though yum, is it possible to download the RPM file directly?

Dis you try to remove the cache?

yum clean all
Or
rm -rf /var/cache/yum/*

Then install the new kernel with yum update

Ran a yum clean all and still nothing. Says "no packages marked for update".

Ok well this is odd. Just ran a uname -a and I see the updated kernel and I did nothing. I know Friday before I left it was not updated to this new version. Could this have been done automatically?

Yes ! you can able to download the update kernel and related firewall packages from redhat RPM downloads.

rpm -ivh [new kernel version dependencies]
rpm -ivh [new kernel version ]
reboot

Ensure that yum-cron is (or isn't) enabled for any automatic updates.

Also ensure the kernel is not excluded in /etc/yum.conf.
