Mounting a vxfs file system

Latest response

I am using RHEL7 for a forensics server. We're going to be mounting Vxfs file systems (Veritas File System) onto the server to analyze them. I've read RHEL7 doesn't support vxfs directly, but Symantec Storage Foundation works on RHEL7. Does anybody have experience with this? What are you opinions?

There is a free community driven 'freevxfs.' I am trying to avoid it because it's not enterprise-grade software. I couldn't get it to compile anyway :p

there's nothing special in installing Symantec SFHA to rhel7 server. Make sure you read Storage Foundation and High Availability Solutions 6.2 and later Software Compatibility List (SCL) and install latest patches from Symantec SORT. Never heard of "freevxfs" before.

PS: if count of vxfs volumes is less or equal to 4 , you could try to use Symantec SFHA Basic, completely free of charge.

VxFS is a proprietary, IP-encumbered filesystem. I'd be wary of using a "community" version if you have any interest in the future viability of the data in the filesystem.

That said, Storage Foundation Basic is free. If you're only looking to analyze a few volumes/filesystems at a time, it's probably suitable to your needs.
