Folks,
I made the assumption that the most correct way to go about eliminating our central CUPS server in favor of our enterprise Windows printing server would be to have the Windows administrators enable IPPS on their print server, then use IPPS to print to it. I also assumed this would be a simple task and would work after a simple queue setup.

Thus far this has not been the case on RHEL 6 or RHEL 7 workstations.

Windows serves IPPS via port 443 rather than the customary :631. Here is an example of the queue I'm pointing to with no luck:

I run through the printer setup in Gnome that configures CUPS w/o needing a root password, setting the following settings:

• Add Printer
• Network printer
• Internet Printing Protocol (https)
• Enter device URI: https://ps.some.college/printers/COPIER11/.printer
• Provide a PPD file (upload the right ppd file)
• Select installable options
• Set a name
• Print a test page
  Everything looks great, but no test page arrives. When I look in CUPS (localhost:631), the job is under the following status:
  "Held since ", with the option to release. Releasing doesn't seem to do anything.

I should also mention that on my Windows 7 workstation, I can add the IPPS URI listed above as a new printer, and it works right out of the box, no problem. So it's something about CUPS not being able to talk to that queue while Windows hosts can...

Any advice?
