Does gluster support included if we buy redhat subscription ?

Latest response

1.) Does gluster support included if we buy redhat subscription ? or gluster has a separate support and separately charged ?
2.) If we are able to buy gluster support. Will gluster promise data recovery if something happen bad (like data is unable to retrive) with gluster environment (except whole gluster environment disks got out of order)

Hello Zahid,
I cannot answer all of your questions, but I have some links to provide:

Red Hat Storage (formerly referred to as simply 'Gluster')
https://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/storage/gluster
You will find a link there to "buy" - which will redirect you to a sales contact.

Regarding data recovery:
Red Hat Storage can be configured in numerous ways to assure data integrity and performance. There are a number of training options that can help you design/implement/manage Red Hat Storage. Your local Sales team can also assist in addressing your questions.

James,

As I understand it Red Hat Storage is essentially an appliance, are you able to advise if Gluster is supported if used on RHEL?

Looking at options for using Gluster across nodes for shared storage for Docker containers and want the Docker hosts to also host the storage (ie. not using centralised NAS/SAN).

Trying to figure out the best way to answer the question ;-)

In a sense, it is like an appliance as I believe the machine should be a single-purpose host - which is to host Gluster bricks. The host can be bare metal or a VM (even AWS) - there are some limitations when using RHS in a cloud environment due to how the network is usually managed in cloud environments.

The 2 installation methods which I have focused on:
* Install from the Red Hat Storage 3.x ISO
* Install RHEL 6.6 and add rhel-scalefs and rhs-3-for rhel channels
So, you can absolutely use it on RHEL. ;-)

So, and this is not an exaggeration, getting started with Red Hat Storage is absolutely easy. As with anything, you need to spend some time learning some of the best-practices and optimizations as you start to plan to introduce it to your production landscape. I really enjoy the product. Red Hat Storage Console is a nice dashboard and easy to use as well. The high-availability and replication features are cool.

As for Docker, I recommend looking at OpenShift (if you don't already have the components for provisioning and management) There is quite a bit of momentum behind it and I am excited for what the future holds in containers, etc... ;-)

Redhat Storage Server and Gluster are same thing ?

Yes - Gluster is the upstream project for Red Hat Storage. You may also see it as Red Hat Gluster Storage, as well. I believe the Storage Console is exclusive to Red Hat Storage.
Red Hat acquired Ceph (via Inktank) last year and now there is also Red Hat Ceph Storage.

This overview page explains the products very well:
