In Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform are the features like offline sync of applications and pushing applications supported?
Hi everyone,
I am new to Red hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform.
We are looking to set up Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform to deploy Java and HTML5 based applications.
We have some doubts regarding its features;
-
Is the offline data sync of applications supported in Red hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform?? By 'offline sync of applications', what I mean is that say for example, a user is using an application when he is not connected to internet, is there a facility to save the changes he made to the application data when he is offline, and as soon as he is connected to the network, the changes he made to application data would be reflected in the application.
-
Is it possible to push updates of applications from the Management console?
-
Also, what tools are to be used to use Odata services as it seems Red hat Jboss EAP on its own cannot do so?
Regards,
Priyanka Pedamkar

Priyanka,
I can provide an answer to your first two questions, but not the last.
-
No, JBoss EAP does not provide such a feature. I believe this feature would have to be implemented within the application.
-
Yes - updated applications can be deployed from within the Management Console.
What are options for sending push notifications to the device from server??
By Push notifications you mean to a mobile device? Check out Aerogear Push [1]. This isn't supported but it is a very promising project. Also, if you want to do mobile development then take a look at FeedHenry [2]
2.What are the options to deploy updated applications on the device??
This has nothing to do with JBoss. Deploying applications on a mobile device is part of your mobile development. The backend would live in JBoss and this is what your application would connect to. I.e. to retrieve a list of names for example so they are not stored on the device.
You can use JBoss Developer Studio [3] where you'll find a number of resources for creating HTML5 applications to deploy on JBoss and then access via the internet on your mobile device.
If you have any other questions on this let me know.

Unfortunately at the moment Aerogear UPS is just a community project with no Enterprise level support from Red Hat,
If you want a supported push service please take a look at the services provided by FeedHenry [1]. You might also want to take a look at the following Blog post [2] that gives you a lot more information on what is possible at the moment in OpenShift and FeedHenry and what's to come!

Hi Mustafa,
In (http://www.jboss.org/unifiedpush), Red Hat JBoss Unified Push Server information is available.
Even documentation is provided for the same.
Is it not supported? Is it something completely different ?
There needs to be clarity from Red Hat on this.
Regards,
SN
No it's not supported. I think perhaps this link might help you understand the difference as no clarification is necessary, Aerogear UPS is not a product - http://www.redhat.com/en/technologies/jboss-middleware/community-or-enterprise
Check this out - http://www.jboss.org/technology/
I'm not sure what the documentation comment means, all our upstream projects contain complete documentation and so they should if we want people to use them!
