Timeout error in TightVNC Viewer
I get a message saying 'the connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.' I'm connecting to an RHEL 6.4 box in Hong Kong. When I connect via ssh (putty) , it normally takes a few seconds longer than connecting to anything in the US. How do I increase the connection timeout in VNC?
Thanks,
Calvin

Hello
Are you sure IP address and port number are correct? Can you telnet to the port as a test?
You say you have SSH access, can you check service is running on the port you think it should be and that the host's firewall is allowing the port the VNC server is bound to? Are there any other firewalls before the host?

The Connecting to a VNC Server section of the Deployment Guide has a subsection Configuring the Firewall for VNC which might be of interest. There is also the option to use VNC over SSH. See Connecting to VNC Server Using SSH
