Hi Khaled,

Have you looked at our Multipath Helper Lab App? That could take some of the pain out of the configuration for you.

We also have How do I configure device-mapper-multipath with an EMC Clariion SAN? and How do I configure device-mapper-multipath for EMC CLARiion or VNX with ALUA mode in RHEL 6? that will be of use to you.

When you try the Helper app, the Clariions are ".*" unthe the DGC heading in the vendor selection.

Please let us know how that goes,
Mark

There are two parts in this :
1. Storage side configuration
2. Os side configuration

For #1, you need to check with concern vendor about hardware connectivity and making sure zoning/masking is correctly set. This will make sure that LUNs assigned from storage array are available for OS
For #2, You just need to reboot (as this is new system so possible) and LUNs will be detected. Or you can perform scsi rescanning to see new luns. See beloe solution for more details on scsi rescanning :

Thank you for you all
I will use FC connect not scsi . is device-mapp-multipath support FC.
and what is better use EMC PowerPath or device-mapp-multipath.
note that I will install oracle database in the server.
Best Regards

Khaled - there is not a single answer to that question. There are a lot variables that would go in to deciding which path to go (licensing costs of PowerPath, comfort with their products, support agreement, etc...) I have found the native multipath to be completely adequate for my needs, but you may have different requirements. I would speak with your software vendors to determine which path they recommend and that you are the most comfortable supporting. Oracle, EMC and Red Hat will all have a Hardware Compatibility List and support matrix. I recommend implemented a supported, best-practice configuration ensuring that when you have to call for assistance with an issue the resolution should be fairly straight-forward.

Khaled,
Start with our Documentation. For both RHEL 7 & 6, you will find a Storage section that covers Device Mapper Multipath and LVM. Become familiar with both of them. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/. Additionally, you will find a tremendous amount of Knowledge Solutions and Articles on Multipath by searching our customer portal.

From a Red Hat perspective, we recommend Device Mapper Multipath because we know it to be equal in performance to EMC PowerPath and we know the code so that we can troubleshoot it and provide patches. EMC PowerPath is a proprietary product for which we do not have access to the source code, thus when issues arise we might need to defer to the third party vendor if an issue is isolated to be in the PowerPath kernel module.

We have a very large % of customers happily using Device Mapper Multipath with very large and critical environments. So there should be no concerns with choosing this option. That said, PowerPath is fine also, it just adds another vendor into the support process.

Also, depending on the application, we may have configuration guides for those as well. For example, just search for Oracle Best Practices in our customer portal and you will find very good guides for both RHEL 6 & 7 to properly set up a well tuned Oracle DB.
