Host non-responsive in rhevm

Latest response

Hi,
When i approve the Host then the host becomes non-responsive.
This is my situation
As i don't have domain name so i changed the "name server" to my local machine address to make rev loop up work. I am facing the issue when I approve the RHEV-H .
What is the possibility to make this thing work.

Hello Harshit,
Have you configured the network interaces for the host? All of the logical networks specified as "required" in the Cluster settings have to be configured.

Does that mean that i should be able to resolve hosts and manager from both manager machine and Host machine?? I am able to do that as I have changed the DNS to my local machine and i am using dnsmasq.

Is this thing has something to do with clusters ? I am using a default cluster with default storage setting.

I'm not sure if this is DNS-related or not. I've always had a pretty simple DNS setup. I would think that DNS is OK if names and IP addresses are resolving as expected.

Did you register the host from the RHEV-H console? That screen is called oVirt Engine.

I'm not sure if a non-responsive state is only from a lack of communication between RHEV-M and RHEV-H. The rhevm network is configured on the RHEV-H console. That has to be done before the host is registered. You might check /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log for clues about communication between RHEV-M and RHEV-H.

Once a host is registered with RHEV-M and approved, it is necessary to configure the Interfaces on the Host so that all of the required Logical Networks in the Cluster are set up. This is done in the Host tab and Network Interfaces subtab. There is a link named Setup Host Networks.

I'm not sure what a default storage setting is but if you have online storage (e.g. iSCSI) then you have to have that network (the SAN) configured on the host.

The rhevm (management) logical network is always required. Other logical networks may also be configured to be required in the Cluster tab, Logical Networks subtab.

Does this thing has something to do with power management??
I don't have file /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log
I have these files
/var/log/rhevm/rhevm.log (in RHEL server)
/var/log/ovirt.log
/var/log/ovirt-node.log

in rhevm.log i get some errors:
[1] cannot get vdsmanager for vsid= xxxxxxx
[2] ovirt-ISOS directory not found

Hello Harshit,
I am fairly certain that you need functional DNS to deploy RHEV. I don't know if there are work-around(s) that you can do (i.e. host-based files and such). There are certificates and other configuration parameters that are dependent on a Fully-Qualified Domain Name.
That said, one place to look (on your RHEV Manager) is:
/var/log/ovirt-engine/host-deploy

I don't have this file or directory. I am using RHEVM.

Sorry for the delay Harshit.

Is this a completely new environment you are trying to deploy? I'm using an older version (3.2) but I believe the directory should still be there in the newer versions.

Here is what my RHEV-mgr system looks like, with 2 Hypervisors

[root@rhvmgr01 host-deploy]# pwd
/var/log/ovirt-engine/host-deploy
[root@rhvmgr01 host-deploy]# ll
total 1544
-rw-r--r-- 1 ovirt ovirt 782777 Sep 16 2013 ovirt-20130916120942-10.10.3.57-6635f35c.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 ovirt ovirt 783449 Sep 16 2013 ovirt-20130916122338-10.10.3.58-5b5a31f0.log

Regarding DNS: there are a number of issues that I imagine can arise. When you connect to the console, it provides a "link" for the connection (which identifies where the console connection actually is). As I mentioned previously, there are a number of certificates, etc.. ( you can look in here to see them /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/certs)

I might recommend looking at the RHEV all-in-one to get you started and then you can have a working environment to review and compare to what you are trying to build. (you may be able to see how they deal with DNS, etc... in a segmented environment like they create)
