This is a very open ended question and depends heavily on a huge amount of variables.
Do you have a specific use case,workload or application you are planning to migrate?

The shared link I believe is useful also in this case, same principles apply also when such a decision is need to be taken it gives a good overview of aspects which need to be considered ( I.e it depends )
For a technology comparison between Virtualisation and Containerisation i have found useful this study.
From my experience it is also very important performance wise the selection of the container host not all lightweight container hosts perform the same.
