Are there sizing recommendations for CUPS server?
We are running CUPS on a RHEL 6.5 (24Gb mem) system with approximately 325 printers defined. CUPS is the main thing running there but we also have a some other 3rd party software running on it. The third party software is not a resource hog, but it definitely uses some resources. We expect the number of printers to continue to grow.
I would like to head off any issues before they occur. Does anyone know of a sizing utility or recommendation that has guidelines on how many printers is manageable and memory requirements per printer (or group of printers)? I've done quite a bit of searching but haven't found anything so far that directly addresses this issue.
Thanks.

Hi Danny,
This very much depends on the type of print jobs and the type of printers you're using. For example, if you can only use PostScript printers, the CPU and memory requirements will be much lower than with non-PostScript printers. CUPS developers stress-test the software for configurations with up to 10 000 printers.
See also What are the max number of printers I can connect on the same Samba server acting as a print server? Even though that solution refers to a Samba server in combination with CUPS, it does provide some useful pointers. Unfortunately, the linked hardware 'estimator' is no longer available on cups.org.
