GNOME Windows Priority

Latest response

Running RHEL 6.6.

When using some multiple windows software tools notification windows do not always appear "on top".

In GNOME is there a way to configure the windows manager so that popup notifications always appear "on top" of all other windows?

Hello Steve,

I'm not sure you can set ALL popups to be always on top but you should be able to set an "Always on top" flag on singular windows by right-clicking on the title bar of the window (if it has no title bar, try the Alt+Space combination).
If this doesn't help, would you mind telling me more on the kind of popups you want always on top? Are they spawned by a specific application?

Hi Giuseppe,

The popups I refer to are notifications from the Cadence EDA tools that we use.
These windows are generated by the tools while running, for example design simulations, so we would be unable to set the "Always on top" switch.

The users only become aware that the notification window is not on top when they notice that there is an extra icon on the window/system bar or that icon is flashing.

Steve
