No microphone input in RHEL 7
Just installed RHEL 7 and Skype. Found out the there is no microphone input.
Checked the sound settings and found out that the microphone input does not work.
The computer Dell Optiplex 755 has an integrated Intel audio card. Tried various things which did not work.
Cannot find or install sndconfig.
Any ideas?

Hi Christian,
Could you please provide a little more detail? Specifically:
-
You mentioned that microphone input doesn't work in sound settings. Did you mean the Input tab in the Sound window under Settings? If so, does that tab show any input device listed in the lower half of the window (Choose a device for sound input:)?
-
If there is a sound device listed, it means that the system has recognized the input device in your laptop but failed to configure it properly. That should be easy to deal with. First, make sure that the button next to Input volume: is set to ON, and that the volume is turned up. Then we can try some other things.

If there is no sound device listed in the Input tab, then try to run
cat /proc/asound/cardsin a Terminal and see if it shows anything.
When we have this information, we can continue to try and troubleshoot the problem.
