Red Hat 3scale API Management End of Life Update
At the conclusion of the published lifecycle for the current version, 2.x, there will be no subsequent major releases of Red Hat 3scale API Management. Customers will need to assess alternative solutions in preparation for the product’s end of Maintenance Support in June 2027 and end of Extended Life Cycle Support in June 2029.
This article provides additional information and guidance regarding options and next steps.
Timeline and Support
Red Hat will continue to support and maintain 3scale 2.x according to the published lifecycle which includes full support through June 30, 2027 and an option to purchase Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) through June 30, 2029 for self-managed software customers.
All customers with current subscriptions will continue to receive fixes and proactive maintenance until the end of the maintenance lifecycle phase on June 30, 2027.
Customers with the self-managed software version will have the option to extend support through the ELS phase until June 30, 2029. General ELS details can be found here. 3scale will follow its published lifecycle with respect to ELS phases. These resources and supported configurations details will be kept current through the lifecycle.
Customers on a Red Hat managed instance of 3scale (Hosted (SaaS) or Red Hat OpenShift API Management) will see the managed service sunset on June 30, 2027, with no option to extend the service.
Future options for API Management customers
For existing 3scale API Management customers and Red Hat customers looking for API Management capabilities, there are multiple options available depending on your specific needs:
- Red Hat Connectivity Link
- IBM API Connect
- Red Hat Partner offerings
Red Hat Connectivity Link is a unified, multifunction Kubernetes-native solution for customers looking to reduce complexity by integrating critical network functions such as Global Load Balancing, Multi-Cluster Capabilities, AI Gateway, and Management of API endpoints.
IBM API Connect is a leading full-lifecycle API Management offering from IBM, available in both software and SaaS formats. For more information on IBM API Connect or to request a free trial, please see the IBM API Connect product page or IBM API Connect in the Red Hat Ecosystem catalog..

For current customers of 3scale API Management (self-managed software)
We recommend current 3scale software customers evaluate Red Hat Connectivity Link capabilities against their use-cases and requirements. Red Hat Connectivity Link is tightly integrated with the OpenShift platform and related functionality such as Kubernetes Ingress, Gateway API, and OpenShift Service Mesh.
Customers seeking a comprehensive full-lifecycle API Management solution that can run on OpenShift and other Kubernetes environments are encouraged to evaluate the IBM API Connect product. To learn more, schedule a demo or request a free trial, please visit the IBM API Connect product page.

For current customers of managed 3scale API Management (including SaaS variants and OpenShift API Management)
Customers wishing to remain on a hosted solution, multi-tenant SaaS, or dedicated instance should consider IBM API Connect or other partner offerings. IBM API Connect is available as a service on Amazon AWS and a reserved instance on IBM Cloud. For more information, see: IBM API Connect Pricing and Plans. Other certified partner solutions may also be offered as a hosted solution. Please see the Red Hat Partner Catalog for more information.
For new customers seeking API Lifecycle Management solutions
Red Hat customers considering new API Lifecycle Management deployments should start with one of the alternatives rather than beginning a new deployment of 3scale due to its limited lifecycle and pending retirement.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are there differences between 3scale SaaS and 3scale self-managed software?
Yes. The SaaS version will be retired at the end of the Maintenance lifecycle phase (June 30, 2027). The self-managed software version of 3scale will have an optional 2-year ELS phase (through June 30, 2029).
Can I continue to renew my 3scale subscription?
You can renew all versions through their published lifecycles. If you want to continue support beyond June 2027, you will need to add an ELS subscription, which is available only for the 3scale Self-Managed software version. ELS for 3Scale self-managed version will conclude June 30, 2029.
I anticipate my use of 3scale will grow - can I add to my 3scale subscription?
Yes, you may increase the quantity of your 3scale subscription throughout its lifecycle. Once the product enters its Extended Lifecycle Support (ELS) phase, you will also need to increase your quantity of the ELS add-on to cover the entire 3scale footprint.
Some products have an ELS-2 phase. Will 3scale?
No, 3scale will only have an ELS-1 phase. The product will be retired after that phase concludes.
