What are the differences between Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP with High Availability and Update Services?

RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services (RHEL for SAP with HA & EUS/E4S) is an offering available from IBM Cloud, leveraging IBM Cloud's Red Hat Satellite. This is a fully Pay-as-you-Go (PAYG) on-demand OS license.

RHEL for SAP Solutions is an offering available directly from Red Hat and Red Hat channel partners, available using Red Hat Cloud Access to register current subscriptions via Red Hat Subscription Management (RHSM) on redhat.com [previously RHN]. Customers who require Red Hat Smart Management must use this option.

Are Red Hat Cloud Access gold images available for IBM Cloud?

Red Hat gold images are virtual machine (VM) images prepared and available in select Red Hat CCSP environments, to be used with Bring-your-own-OS (BYO-OS) / Bring-your-own-Subscription (BYOS) use cases in the cloud.

There are no Red Hat gold images prepared for IBM Cloud, generic or specific to Red Hat for SAP. For further information, please see:

What are the differences between Red Hat's Extended Update Support (EUS) and Update Services (E4S)?

Extended Update Support (EUS) provides up to two (2) years of extended update support. With IBM Cloud for SAP, this is primarily targeted towards IaaS hosts of SAP NetWeaver and SAP AnyDB.

Extended Update Services (E4S) provides up to four (4) years of extended update services. With IBM Cloud for SAP, this is primarily targeted towards IaaS hosts of SAP HANA.

The EUS and E4S allow Red Hat customers the flexibility to decide when to take advantage of new Red Hat Enterprise Linux features, including new hardware enablement.

What happens if a Red Hat version exceeds the time stated in RHEL Lifecycle Support?

The customer is required to migrate to a supported Red Hat for SAP offering. This can be achieved with a minor version upgrade if necessary, Red Hat provides support for IBM Cloud customers running SAP Software from moving between minor versions (e.g. RHEL 7.6 > RHEL 7.9).

In addition, Red Hat provides support for some in-place upgrades (e.g. via Leapp). Please read Supported in-place upgrade paths for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
