What are the differences between Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP with High Availability and Update Services?

RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services (RHEL for SAP with HA and US) is an offering available in the Partner Marketplace.

RHEL for SAP with HA and US offers the following components:

  • SAP specific technical components to support S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Apps
  • High Availability solutions for S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications
  • Update Services for SAP Solutions, that provides support on specified minor releases for 4 years from General Availability.
  • Extended Update Support (EUS) for versions that do not have Update Services for SAP Solutions. EUS provides support on specific minor releases for 2 years from General Availability.

RHEL for SAP Solutions is a SAP certified commercial SKU that customers can purchase directly from Red Hat, Red Hat channel partners and use Red Hat Cloud Access to register current subscriptions.

RHEL for SAP Solutions offers the following components:

  • SAP specific technical components to support S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Apps
  • High Availability solutions for S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications
  • Update Services for SAP Solutions, that provides support on specified minor releases for 4 years from General Availability.
  • Extended Update Support (EUS) for versions that do not have Update Services for SAP Solutions. EUS provides support on specific minor releases for 2 years from General Availability.
  • Smart Management for lifecycle management
  • Red Hat Insights for proactive optimization

When should my customer use RHEL for SAP Solutions or RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services?

  • Customers wishing to purchase from the Partner Marketplace will be required to purchase RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services
  • Customers who wish to use BYOS or purchase directly from Red Hat or Red Hat channel partners can purchase RHEL for SAP Solutions. RHEL for SAP Solutions can only be consumed with Red Hat Cloud Access at this time.
  • Customers who require Smart Management and Insights will be required to purchase RHEL for SAP Solutions through Cloud Access

Is RHEL 6.x for HANA available in the marketplace?
Yes. RHEL 6.7 for HANA is supported, however, the RHEL for HANA SKU is now deprecated (December 2018). It is recommended that customers move to the 7.4, 7.5, 7.6 RHEL for SAP with HA and US offering.

Additionally, RHEL 6.10 is for customers wishing to remain on RHEL 6.x and may also perform an in place upgrade from 6.10 to 7.4.

What does my customer do with an existing marketplace HANA SKU that is deprecating December 2018?
Customers will be required to migrate to a supported offering. Customers will migrate from RHEL for SAP HANA to RHEL for SAP with HA and US.

What does my customer do with an existing RHEL for SAP HANA subscription that is consumed via cloud access on a CCSP infrastructure?
Customers that have an existing RHEL for SAP HANA subscription through Red Hat Cloud Access and consumed on partner infrastructure will be required to migrate to RHEL for SAP Solutions.

What is the difference between E4S and EUS?
E4S provides up to four (4) years of extended update support. EUS provides up to two (2) years of extended update support. RHEL for SAP with HA and US (7.4, 7.6) is the first solution provided with the four (4) year support. E4S is available in both RHEL For SAP with HA and US and RHEL for SAP Solutions.

The EUS Add-On and the Update Services for SAP Solutions allows customers the flexibility to decide when to take advantage of new Red Hat Enterprise Linux features, including new hardware enablement.
