What are the differences between Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP with High Availability and Update Services

RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services (RHEL for SAP with HA and US) is an offering available in the AWS Marketplace.

RHEL for SAP with HA and US offers the following components:

  • SAP specific technical components to support S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Apps
  • High Availability solutions for S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications
  • Update Services for SAP Solutions, that provides support on specified minor releases for 4 years from General Availability.
  • Extended Update Support (EUS) for versions that do not have Update Services for SAP Solutions. EUS provides support on specific minor releases for 2 years from General Availability.

RHEL for SAP Solutions is a commercial SKU certified on AWS that customers can purchase directly from Red Hat and Red Hat channel partners and use Red Hat Cloud Access to register current subscriptions.

RHEL for SAP Solutions offers the following components:

  • SAP specific technical components to support S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Apps
  • High Availability solutions for S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications
  • Update Services for SAP Solutions, that provides support on specified minor releases for 4 years from General Availability.
  • Extended Update Support (EUS) for versions that do not have Update Services for SAP Solutions. EUS provides support on specific minor releases for 2 years from General Availability.

  • Red Hat Insights for proactive optimization

When should my customer use RHEL for SAP Solutions or RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services?
- Customers wishing to purchase from the AWS marketplace will be required to purchase RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services
- Customers who wish to use BYOS or purchase directly from Red Hat or Red Hat channel partners can purchase RHEL for SAP Solutions. RHEL for SAP Solutions can only be consumed with Red Hat Cloud Access at this time.
- Customers who require Smart Management and Insights will be required to purchase RHEL for SAP Solutions through Cloud Access

Which Red Hat SAP offerings are available on the AWS marketplace?
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP with HA and Update Services
- Based on RHEL 7.4 and 7.5 release
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP HANA 6.7, 7.2, 7.3 and 7.5

E4S is only available in 7.4 release and 7.6 when GA

* RHEL for HANA will be deprecated 30 Dec 2018. It is not recommended to offer a new customer RHEL for HANA.

Is RHEL 6.x for HANA available in the marketplace?
Yes. RHEL 6.7 for HANA is supported, however, the RHEL for HANA SKU will be deprecated this year. It is recommended that customers move to the 7.4 or 7.5 RHEL for SAP with HA and US offering. Customers will need to do a new clean install and migrate their data from 6.x to 7.4 or 7.5. RHT is currently qualifying RHEL 6.10 which is targeted to have an in-place upgrade path to 7.x.

What does my customer do with an existing AWS marketplace HANA SKU that is deprecating December 2018?
Customers will be required to migrate to a supported AWS offering. Customers will migrate from RHEL for SAP HANA to RHEL for SAP with HA and US.

What does my customer do with an existing RHEL for SAP HANA subscription that is consumed via cloud access on AWS infrastructure?
Customers that have an existing RHEL for SAP HANA subscription through Red Hat Cloud Access and consumed on AWS infrastructure will be required to migrate to RHEL for SAP Solutions.

What is the difference between E4S and EUS?
E4S provides up to four (4) years of extended update support. EUS provides up to two (2) years of extended update support. RHEL for SAP with HA and US (7.4) is the first solution provided with the four (4) year support. E4S is available in both RHEL For SAP with HA and US and RHEL for SAP Solutions.

The EUS Add-On and the Update Services for SAP Solutions allows customers the flexibility to decide when to take advantage of new Red Hat Enterprise Linux features, including new hardware enablement.

Red Hat Update Infrastructure (RHUI) is maintained by Red Hat in each AWS region and can be accessed to get regular updates and patches. Red Hat Enterprise Linux instances will have access to the regional repositories to receive incremental updates and is included in the cost.
Cloud Access customers will connect to the Red Hat customer portal to access all errata and updates to ensure security and quality.
