RHEL 8.9 with DISA STIG (GUI) Profile has no gui when it wakes up from inactive session lock

Afternoon!
I spun up Rhel 8.9 on a device the other day with the DISA STIG for RHEL W/GUI security profile. Everything seems to be good except that if the device is idle for too long when you wake it up all you have is a black screen with a flashing underscore prompt in the top left. pressing ALT+F2 prompts for login, and after that I have access to the command line. While im sure I could relaunch the gui from here it would not be convenient for myself or my end users. What course of action should i take to change it so that users can just unlock the device and continue working?
