RHBA-2010:0087 - Bug Fix Advisory

  • Overview

Synopsis

rgmanager bug-fix update

Type/Severity

Bug Fix Advisory

Topic

Updated rgmanager packages that fix a bug are now available.

Description

The rgmanager packages contain the Red Hat Resource Group Manager, which
provides high availability of critical server applications.

This update applies the following bug fixes:

  • if a thread exited as rgmanager received a request to start a new thread,

a rare race condition could lead the starting thread to incorrectly include
a reference to the old thread. This caused the new thread to not retry and
enter an infinite loop. This presented as rgmanager segfaulting or hanging
when enabling or disabling services. This update includes a fix that
ensures new threads do not reference old threads. Consequently the race
condition does not occur, new threads do not enter an infinite loop and
rgmanager enables and disables services without failing. (BZ#555925)

All Red Hat Resource Group Manager users should upgrade to these updated
packages, which resolve this issue.

Solution

Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata
relevant to your system have been applied.

To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run:

rpm -Fvh [filenames]

where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those
RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are
not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you
can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains
the
desired RPMs.

Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many
people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network,
launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command:

up2date

This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate
RPMs being upgraded on your system.
