How do I: Create internal Redhat respository

Latest response

I am looking for direction on where to find information on how to build an internal Redhat repository (similar in concept to a Windows Update Server). Our Redhat implementation has been growing and I want to limit the amount of inbound traffic to me servers from the Internet. Also, does Redhat have any reporting capability in terms of patch compliance?

It sounds like you are looking for Red Hat Satellite (currently 5.6)

There is no "magic number" of hosts when people justify implementing Satellite in their environment. Satellite allows a lot of flexibility (connected vs disconnected - master/slave/proxy). It allows for provisioning, deployment, auditing (patch-level and SCAP), advanced reporting using the API and included tools. You can also include other 3rd-party repositories to distribute packages. It's also fairly decent at configuration management.

Satellite 6 will be released later this year and will be another game changer, as it has huge shoes to fill following the current offering.
