  • Conflicting info about host registration

    Posted on

    Hello,

I think there is conflicting information about how to register a host in satellite. For my VMs, I followed the CONFIGURING VIRTUAL MACHINE SUBSCRIPTIONS IN RED HAT SATELLITE guide, section 6 Registering Virtual Machines to use a Host-based Subscription to register my VMs.

However, when reviewing the MANAGING HOSTS guide, section 3. it suggests the methods in the first guide are being deprecated.

The method that is recommended is using the curl command on the host, which as I'm reading on, seems to snowball into SSH key distribution, global registration templates, remote execution configuration, provisioning, etc...

My job right now is to register an existing host with satellite, provide it with repos, and run patch jobs. Do I really need to deal with all the snowball stuff I'm reading?
