Disk space increasing due to Hawkular Metrics folder

In our application, In one of the minions which is deployed over Openshift we are facing disk space issue.

On daily basis, The Hawkular-Metrics folder size is keep on increasing with lot many *.db files getting created. It is under Openshift.local.volumes folder.
Can you help us to understand what is this hawkular metrics folder, what is the use of this ?

How to safely remove/cleanup this folder. Shall we delete this folder ? Or how to cleanup this folder without impacting the application ?
