USERS: SuperUser permissions are not being inherited

Latest response

Hello

Can you please run this through your lab and let me know if its expected behaviour or if its a bug ?

I add a user and  grant the user "SuperUser" administrator permissions on a particular DC via using admin/internal via the admin portal

I then log out and login as that user new user that has "SuperUser" permissions.

I attempt to add a new user to the particular DC and grant them an admin type role.

This fails with message :-

* Cannot add permission. Only system super user can give permissions with admin role.

Since I am adding this user and granting them admin type role whilst logged in as a user with SuperUser role permissions, I'd expect this to work.

If this is not the case , how do I create a "System" user (similar to admin/internal) and grant SuperUser role permissions ?

Something to mull over during your little holiday ;)

Or to put it another way, when granting a SuperUser role to a user whilst logged in as admin/internal, it is not inheriting the "System" permission, but instead only "SuperUser" permission for the particular DC.  This is regardless of the fact that the "System" permission box is selected in the "SuperUser" role.

Making sense ?

Hi Richard,

Are you able to verify the RHEV version you are using ? RHEV 2.2 or RHEV 3 ?

Frank

Sorry Frank, I should have made that clear from the beginning.  RHEV3.0

Hey Richard.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I had a look in to this issue and looks like we have to reproduce the issue in-house. It would  be great if you could open a support ticket with Red Hat ..

Frank

Thanks for checking it out Frank.

I've raised support ticket 719296 to cover.

Cheers

Oh..BTW..I have since discover how to grant a user "System" permissions. Couldn't see for looking.
