Heavy screen flicker - Installation of RHEL 7.5 from Boot USB

Latest response

Hey everyone,

This problem seems to be intermittent, but when I use the RHEL 7.5 boot usb I get heavy screen flicker and I can't actually look at it.

I just reboot a few times and it goes away. still it would be great to somehow figure out a way to avoid it, perhaps with a reduced resolution mode.

I'm wondering if anyone else here has observed this.

I have an HP Z8 with 2 Nvidia 1080 TI cards in it, and the display is plugged into the first port of card 1.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Hi Andrew,

Press the E key after starting the machine and add the parameter nouveau.modeset=0 at the end of the line beginning with linux before booting. Then press Ctrl + X to boot ... this disables the NVIDIA GPU during the installation process. Please report back if it worked. :)

Christian

Thanks Christian, great to know there's a way :)

You're welcome, Andrew ! :)

Had a chance to test this again today, it worked. would it be bad to make it the default behaviour for the installer?

No Andrew, I don't think so ... on most machines it works as expected without adding the parameter.
So as it is more an exceptional issue, this workaround therefore should be treated as an exception. :)

Christian
