NFS Over GFS

Latest response

Hi All,

OS: RHEL 5.8

We have Oracle database servers in physical machine and SAP application in VMware VM.

In Oracle database server, we are using GFS file system. Due to application requirement, This GFS is exported via NFS and mounted in 5 SAP application servers.

NFS version is 3

NFS mount options used "_netdev,defaults,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,soft,noatime,nodiratime"

We are in the process of setting up new servers from scratch.

RHEL 6.5 for both database and application server. NFSv4 comes by default here.

GFS is planned for Oracle database.

Would like to know is there any best platform available or can we go with NFS. If NFS, is NFSv4 or NFSv3 is better.

Thanks

MTC Unix Team,

If the question is whether to use NFSv3 or NFSv4, if you have support for NFSv4 and it is supported by the vendor (SAP), I would use it. If it your SAP applications don't support v4 NFS will fall back to using NFSv3.
