RHEL7 VM in RHEV as KVM hypervisor (nested KVM)

Latest response

Hello.

I need to do some kind of inter data center "switchability" to make some critical application highly available. Important factor is to have the ability to online migrate its host os. I invented only one possible way to achieve this: have a two RHEV VMs working in two RHEV data centers. Both VMs would act as KVM hypervisors (in terms of nested kvm) for another VM which would be switched between these two VMs.

As I can see RHEL7 supports netsted parameter in kvm_intel module.

Now the question is will Red Hat support such solution ?

Marek,

Why do you need a VM within a VM?
Would it not be easier to use data centre with multiple physical hypervisors?

About the support question: I would open a Support Case and ask it directly to Red Hat.

Hello Jan, thank you for replying and taking care of my problem.

I could not go with the obviously simplest solution that is one data center because this is multi-site active-active DRC configuration with separate per-site storage. I can do some array based replication for few VMs' luns for direct lun configuration which would be rather except from the rule in this environment.

Could you please put here a case number to let me and others observe how it goes ?

Marek

Oh gosh! I miss-interpreted your answer by treating would as will. :)
I will of course open the support case by myself.
