PowerKVM - IBM Power Linux RHEL Subcription options

Latest response

Hi everyone,

I was wondering which RHEL Subscription should I use for Power Linux Systems with PowerKVM enabled, the idea is to run RHEL guests on top of the PowerKVM machine.

Thanks in advance,

Hey Andres, I don't know any of this for certain as I don't have access to PowerPC machines (but I would like to ;-)

I think you should just subscribe to the ppc channels. (i.e. rhel-ppc-server-6)

Is there still an HMC and VIO server - and are you using that to create LPARs?

Hi James, well the doubt is because of this, as with the Power Linux machines there's no HMC nor VIO server, but PowerKVM where you create the Virtual Machines as if them were LPARs... so it's not quite a real LPAR but more like a common Virtual Machine.

The channels are the ones you have mentioned.

IFAIK, RHEL for Power is not certified for IBM PowerKVM. We only certify RHEL for Power on RHEV for Power.
If you find any IBM documentation that states otherwise, please send the reference to fmiranda@redhat.com

I was just reading the IBM PowerKVM Configuration and use redbook: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/redbooks/pdfs/sg248231.pdf and on page 11 it states:
1.3.4 Guest operating system
The following operating systems are supported as guests in the PowerKVM environment:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Version 6.5 or later
...

Reading this I would assume RHEL is supported to run on PowerKVM?
