What are the differences between Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions and Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP with High Availability and Update Services?

RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services (RHEL for SAP with HA and US) is an offering available in the AWS Marketplace. RHEL for SAP Solutions is a commercial SKU certified on AWS that customers can purchase directly from Red Hat and Red Hat channel partners and use Red Hat Cloud Access to register their subscriptions.

Please note that the rh-amazon-rhui-client-ANY package is only relevant in the PAYG model (and only in AWS). If you are using RHSM (anywhere), you do not need RHUI.

What components are included in RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services on Amazon Web Services?

RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services offers the following components:

  • SAP specific technical components to support S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications
  • High Availability solutions for S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications
  • Update Services for SAP Solutions, that provides update services and support on specified minor releases for 4 years from General Availability.
  • Extended Update Support (EUS) for versions that do not have Update Services for SAP Solutions. EUS provides support on specific minor releases for 2 years from General Availability.
  • Red Hat Insights for proactive optimisation

What components are included in RHEL for SAP Solutions on Amazon Web Services?

RHEL for SAP Solutions offers the following components:

  • SAP specific technical components to support S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Apps
  • High Availability solutions for S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications
  • Update Services for SAP Solutions, that provides support on specified minor releases for 4 years from General Availability.
  • Extended Update Support (EUS) for versions that do not have Update Services for SAP Solutions. EUS provides support on specific minor releases for 2 years from General Availability.
  • Red Hat Insights for proactive optimisation
  • Smart Management for lifecycle management

When should my customer use RHEL for SAP Solutions or RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services?

  • Customers wishing to purchase directly from the AWS marketplace (‘Pay As You Go’, PAYG) will be required to purchase RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services.
  • Customers who wish to have an existing Red Hat subscription, purchase directly from Red Hat or Red Hat channel partners (‘Bring Your Own Subscription’, BYOS) can purchase RHEL for SAP Solutions. RHEL for SAP Solutions can only be consumed with Red Hat Cloud Access on AWS.
  • Customers who require Smart Management will be required to purchase RHEL for SAP Solutions through Red Hat Cloud Access.

What are the differences between EUS and E4S?

Extended Update Support (EUS) provides up to two (2) years of extended update support. Update Services (E4S) provides up to four (4) years of update services from general availability (GA) date. RHEL for SAP with HA and US (7.4) is the first solution provided with the four (4) year support. Update Services (E4S) is available in both RHEL For SAP with HA and US and SAP Solutions.

Extended Update Services allows customers the flexibility to decide when to take advantage of new Red Hat Enterprise Linux features, including new hardware enablement.
