How to Perform Update of RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services from 7.5 to 7.6 on Amazon Web Services

Solution Verified - Updated -

  • Red Hat Update Infrastructure (RHUI)
  • AWS AMI installed with RHEL for SAP with High Availability and Update Services (RHEL for SAP w/ HAUS) 7.5

  • The Update Services are delivered in E4S channels. However, there is an exception in 7.5. As per RHEL lifecycle page, there is no E4S/Update services for RHEL 7.5, instead, RHEL for SAP w/ HAUS 7.5 AMI is installed with EUS channels.
  • How to perform OS update to switch from 7.5 EUS to 7.6 E4S channels?

1. Verify repositories

Verify the repositories on this virtual machine

    yum repolist all

The list should only contain eus 7.5 repositories.

2. Download rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-e4s

Run the following command, from the output, make note of the full name of the rpm rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-e4s, for example: rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-e4s-3.0.12-1.el7.noarch.rpm

yumdownloader rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-e4s

3. Remove rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-eus

yum remove rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-eus

4. Install rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-e4s

Install the rpm that's downloaded from step 2:

yum localinstall rh-amazon-rhui-client-sap-bundle-e4s-3.0.12-1.el7.noarch.rpm

5. Set release to 7.6

  1. Run the following command to set yum update release to 7.6. rhui-set-release is a script that writes 7.6 to file /etc/yum/vars/releasever, so you don't have to manually change the file.

    rhui-set-release -s 7.6
  2. Verify that the configured repositories reflect the change to e4s and 7.6.

    yum repolist all

6. Update the system

yum update -y

7. Reboot the system

8. Verify the updated system

cat /etc/redhat-release
uname -r
