Built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), the RHEL for SAP Solutions subscription offers the following additional components:

  • SAP-specific technical components to support S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications.
  • High Availability solutions for S/4HANA, SAP HANA, and SAP Business Applications.
  • RHEL System Roles for SAP, which can be used to automate the configuration of a RHEL system to run SAP workloads.
  • Smart Management and Red Hat Insights for lifecycle management and proactive optimization.
  • Update Services and Extended Update Support:
    • Update Services for SAP Solutions provides support for specific minor RHEL releases for four years from General Availability.
    • Extended Update Support (EUS) for minor RHEL releases that do not have Update Services for SAP Solutions. EUS provides support for specific minor RHEL releases for two years from General Availability. See the RHEL Life Cycle web page for more information on EUS and Update Services for SAP Solutions.

Note:

  • Update Services for SAP Solutions is only provided with RHEL for SAP Solutions. It is not available on any other RHEL products.
  • Update Services for SAP Solutions is only provided on specified minor RHEL releases, which may be different from the EUS releases.

Software components included with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Applications channel

  • sapconf (only in RHEL 6.5 and later, and in RHEL 7.x): Provides the automated RHEL system preparation of a server for the installation of SAP NetWeaver, including required packages, kernel parameters, network parameters, and so on. sapconf can be integrated into Kickstart and Red Hat Satellite Server.

  • compat-sap-c++ (only in RHEL 6.7 and later):
Provides additional runtime compatibility libraries required by newer NetWeaver releases. See the Installation of SAP NetWeaver 7.51 and later on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 fails with the message GLIBCXX_3.4.14 not found knowledge base article for more information. These libraries are installed independently of the standard runtime libraries provided by RHEL.

  • tuned-profiles-sap (only in RHEL 6.5 and later): Provides the sap-netweaver profile to tune RHEL for running SAP NetWeaver-based applications.

  • resource-agents-sap (only in RHEL 6.5 and later): Provides Pacemaker cluster resource agents (SAPDatabase and SAPInstance)[1] to set up high availability for SAP NetWeaver environments. See the Deploying Highly Available SAP NetWeaver-based Servers Using Red Hat Enterprise Linux HA add-on with Pacemaker knowledge base article for guidelines.

  • compat-locales-sap: Enables Legacy SAP locales to easily migrate non-Unicode SAP NetWeaver installations from UNIX/Windows to Linux; see SAP Note 187864 for more information. compat-locales-sap also provides additional locales for customers running non-Unicode SAP applications. For example, the de_DE@HPUX locale changes the sorting for German on RHEL to match the sorting on HP-UX to avoid sorting issues as described in SAP Note 952625. As of RHEL 8.0, this package is now part of the AppStream repository.

  • vhostmd/vm-dump-metrics: A monitoring daemon and client required by SAP for KVM support; see SAP Note 1400911 for more information. In RHEL 8.0, the vm-dump-metrics package is part of the BaseOS repository and the vhostmd package is part of the AppStream repository.

I was told that "Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions" was not available on 7.5, but this article says 7.2+ and above is supported. Is 7.5 currently supported for "Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions"?

if I understood it right the red hat subscription covers all rhel 7 minor releases and red hat supports them for the os part. Usually the interesting limit is what does SAP support for the application you want to run. For HANA this would (currently) be 7.2 - 7.4 depending on the version (https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wiki/display/ATopics/Technical+Resources+for+SAP+HANA+on+Red+Hat)

RHEL 7.5 has been certified for SAP HANA.

https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata states there is no extended support for 7.5

Hello Klaas,

I'm assuming that by 'extended support' you mean the 'extended update support'. In any case please note the difference between extended update support (EUS) and Update services for SAP Solutions (E4S). While EUS is available as of now for RHEL 7.5 (ends April 30, 2020), the E4S is not available for RHEL 7.5 minor version. We are working on explaining the reasons why the RHEL 7.5 is not part of E4S and once we have a proper statement for that we will update it here and other places.

This KB refers to RHEL for SAP HANA, which has been deprecated. Is the table still accurate for RHEL for SAP Solutions, which is the replacement for both the old SAP Applications and HANA versions? RHEL for SAP Applications is still available for subscription to support non-HANA SAP deployments (SAP ERP on ORACLE, for instance) but it is not our go-forward advice.

"The RHEL for SAP Solutions subscription may be used with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, but it does not include Red Hat Insights and Update Services for SAP Solutions. "

I don't believe this is correct, as Insights is now included as part of the RHEL subscription.

Hi, I am bit unsure what you mean by "Update Services for SAP Solutions (E4S)" feature. Is this covering the upgrade from one version to another?

Hi, all details are there: https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata/#Update_Services_for_SAP_Solutions

Hi everyone, just for completeness, information about upgrade from one version to another can be found here https://access.redhat.com/articles/4263361

I've get a notification about a change on this page (because i follow) - but how can I see the difference? (there is no change log AND/OR diff function)

Thank you

Hello,
We added an intro at the beginning of the document, under Resolution>What is Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions? The revision history is only available to people with edit access.
Hope this helps.

Hello, thank you for info - it helps for this single case ... but generally a history function would be a great help. (maybe for your CIP process an idea :-) )

SAP S/4HANA - Pacemaker Cluster Solution is required High Availability & Resilient Storage Addons.

If we take RHEL for SAP Solutions will it be covered both High Availability & Resilient Storage Addons under RHEL for SAP Solutions subscription?

If i am not wrong, RHEL for SAP Solutions includes only High Availability add-on. Not Resilient Storage add-on.

Resilient Storage add-on is a separate add-on which often includes the access and support for High Availability (Reference: https://access.redhat.com/articles/3290201)

Sivakumar, the RHEL for SAP Solutions subscription does include support for Scalable File System Add-On (XFS), which indeed comes by inclusion of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Resilient Storage Add-on as part of the subscription.

Is Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions subscription needed when installing Oracle for SAP ?

Generally speaking, It's the application on top which needs to state which operating systems are being supported. Hence this question would need to be raised towards Oracle, if to support their DBMS on RHEL for SAP Solutions.
