httpd mod_proxy fails attempting Unix domain socket though we configure none

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We see proxy requests on httpd begin to fail intermittently as they attempt some unix domain socket file like /var/run/rpc/xmlrpc.sock though we have no such configuration for this unix domain socket. Restarting clears this intermittent issue for a time before it begins again in another few days:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • JBoss Core Services (JBCS) httpd 2.4.37 SP8 and earlier
