Why does kdump fail on HP system using the 'hpsa' driver for storage in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6?
Issue
- Kdump configured on HP DL380 system to capture vmcore to local storage. But on testing it by triggering a kernel panic through the use of the '
/proc/sysrq-trigger
' the kdump service gets triggered and it hangs with the message:
Waiting for sda like device(s)
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
- The hpsa or cciss driver module being used for local storage (HP Systems)
- Kdump service configured to save vmcore to local storage
