RHEL SAR data is suddenly no longer being updated

Issue

The sar utility is not logging data into /var/log/sa/*

A restart using the "/etc/init.d/sysstat start" posts a message about restart, but sar does not populate data:

[root@examplehost tmp]# sar
Linux 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5 (examplehost)       06/02/2010

10:45:43 AM       LINUX RESTART

10:48:59 AM       LINUX RESTART

12:04:39 PM       LINUX RESTART
