Unable to mount the LV due to metadata corruption on the PV. How to recover data present on this LV ?

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • LVM commands are failing with the below mentioned error for the LV and the LV is not getting mounted. How to recover the data on such a LV? (There is no backup of the data on this LV). There is only one PV in the VG.
#lvscan
  /dev/dm-2: Checksum error
  inactive '/dev/myvg/mylv' [500.00 GB] inherit

Similar to 'Checksum error' while executing any lvm commands on Red Hat High Availability Cluster nodes with HA-LVM resources. However this is applicable to scenarios without cluster as well if PV metadata corruption occurs and there is no backup of data.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux all version
  • LVM
    • (This is applicable to an environment where there are multiple PVs for a VG on which LV has been created.)
