'Checksum error' while executing any lvm commands on Red Hat High Availability Cluster nodes with HA-LVM resources

Issue

  • Checksum errors seen while executing an LVM command: 
# /usr/sbin/pvs
      /dev/dm-10: Checksum error
      /dev/dm-11: Checksum error
    ...
# /usr/sbin/lvs
      /dev/dm-10: Checksum error
      /dev/dm-11: Checksum error
    ...
  • Problem with LVM volume on system with a HA volume group.
    • pvcreate - gave some checksum errors on disks.
    • lvextend - more checksum errors
  • RHCS: Checksum error occurs on HA-LVM

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), including:
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4) with Cluster Suite 4+
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 (with the High Availability Add on)
    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (with the High Availability Add on)
  • Red Hat High Availability cluster with 2 or more nodes.
  • rgamanger controlling cluster resources
    • ha-lvm managing storage resources
  • rgmanager versions:
    • Prior to rgmanager-1.9.80-1.el4_7.3 on RHEL4
    • Prior to rgmanager-2.0.52-1.el5_4.4 on RHEL5
