Every Red Hat Data Grid (RHDG) release is tested and supported on Red Hat OpenShift, as well as a variety of market-leading operating systems, Java™ Virtual Machines (JVMs), and database combinations.
Data Grid for OpenShift
Support for Data Grid on OpenShift is defined in this knowledge article: Support of Red Hat Middleware products and components on Red Hat OpenShift. Please also reference the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Life Cycle Policy for details about the life cycle of each OpenShift release version.
Consider that Data Grid is supported running in all supported OpenShift installations regardless of the deployment model, i.e. ROSA, AWS and others.
Data Grid Operator
This section lists support details for the current version of Data Grid Operator. Previous versions of the Data Grid for OpenShift image are deprecated.
The Operator versions are counted seperate from the server version as there is a faster schedule, see Red Hat Data Grid 8 Operator Maintenance Schedule.
Red Hat supports Data Grid on the following versions of OpenShift Container Platform.
The most recent DataGrid Operator is supported for the latest OpenShift version, even if not listed here. The continuous testing should detect compatibility issues but we recommend to test deployments in a separate environment before running in production instances.
It is highly recommended to use the latest Data Grid Operator release, Data Grid images and Red Hat OpenShift to take advantage of the latest features, capabilities and security improvements.
The latest Operator is able to run with some legacy versions of Data Grid server images by using spec.version
, see Release Notes for more details.
Older minor version releases of the operator are no longer maintained and might not work with newer OpenShift versions listed below, therefore they are deprecated.
To plan updates for OpenShift there is the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform Operator Update Information Checker which can help to check the necessary Data Grid Operator updates.

Data Grid on RHEL and others
Supported Configurations
Red Hat provides both production and development support for supported configurations according to your subscription agreement in both physical and virtual environments. In order to be running in a supported configuration, JDG must be running in one of the following JVM versions and on one of the operating systems supported by that JVM. Red Hat relies on the testing and certification process of the underlying JVM for platform compatibility. Red Hat limits support of OpenJDK to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Tested Configurations
Tested configurations are a defined set of validated and recommended operating systems, chip architectures, JVM, and database combinations. These represent the most common combinations that JBoss Enterprise Middleware customers are using.
Red Hat has performed the full range of platform tests on the following tested configurations.
Supported Configurations: Red Hat Data Grid 8.5

- Data Grid Embedded Mode is supported with Java 17 and Java 21
- Hot Rod Java Clients are supported with Java 17 and Java 21, it is not possible to run it with legacy Java the code is compiled with Java17 since 8.5
- If it is necessary to run a client with Java 11, the recommendation is the latest 8.4, can be used as it is supported.
- If it is necessary to run a client with Java 1.8, the recommendation is the latest 8.3, can be used as it is supported.
- Windows is not longer supported for the server in production environment. But it can be still used for development. Clients are still supported on Windows.
