On RHEL 6 server, rngd service fails to start with error can't open entropy source(tpm or intel/amd rng)
Issue
- Starting rngd services returns error and service does not start:
can't open entropy source(tpm or intel/amd rng)
Maybe RNG device modules are not loaded
- When trying to load
intel-rngmodule, it fails with below error:
# modprobe intel-rng
FATAL: Error inserting intel_rng (/lib/modules/2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64/kernel/drivers/char/hw_random/intel-rng.ko): No such device
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
