Upgrade from 6.4 to 6.5 - lost desktop gui

Issue

After upgrading from Red Hat Enterprise 6.4 to 6.5 we have lost the desktop GUI. When the server is starting up, the text screen will be red/black with the 'Red Hat Enterprise 6.5' showing at the bottom of the screen. Eventually it will change colour to blue/orange and never go into the GUI. The server is otherwise fully functional.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 immediately after updating from 6.4
