Issue

  • How to detect a new disk online which is attached through new controller for a RHEL guest in ESX 5?

  • When a new disk is attached, along with a new controller to a RHEL guest vm in ESX5, it does not get detected online.

  • The two disks through different controllers looks like as seen in the screenshot below. Pease note 'Virtual Device Node' address for the disks.

  • Disk 1 (SCSI 0:0) :

  • Disk 2 (SCSI 1:0) :

Disk 2 also adds new controller 'SCSI Controller 1'

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • VMWare ESX 5
