[RHEL5.8] NFSv4 'mount' command produces warnings about RPC services not running

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • nfs-utils was updated from RHEL5.7 to RHEL5.8 and now mount throws errors indicating rpc.idmapd and/or rpc.gssd is not running
  • rpcidmapd and/or rpcgssd is running, but 'mount' produces an error indicating it is not
# service rpcidmapd status
rpc.idmapd (pid 26855) is running...
# service rpcgssd status
rpc.gssd (pid 26819) is running...

# mount -t nfs4 -o sec=krb5i server.example.com:/export /mnt
Warning: rpc.idmapd appears not to be running.
         All uids will be mapped to the nobody uid.
Warning: rpc.gssd appears not to be running.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.8.
  • nfs-utils version 1.0.9-60.el5.
