When fsck runs at boot time, we get "e2fsck error allocating block bitmap (1) memory allocation failed" and the fsck fails

Issue

  • After running a yum update, one of the file systems fails e2fsck when the system is booted. Running e2fsck after the system is started completes normally.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.10
