RHEL 9: Timeout and attempts options ignored in resolv.conf

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • "timeout" and "attemps" options are used in configuration file for name resolution ("/etc/resolv.conf"), but they are ignored.
  • When name servers configured are not reachable, every resolution attempt takes default timeout instead of the one configured. This causes an unacceptable delay in the command that request the name resolution.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9
    • bind-9.16.23-11.el9.x86_64
