RHEL9: snmpd crashes regularly with "error on subcontainer 'ifTable container' remove (-1)" message

Issue

  • On RHEL9 systems, snmpd crashes from time to time after logging the following messages in the journal

    [...] snmpd[xxx] error on subcontainer 'ifTable container' remove (-1)
[...] snmpd[xxx] double free or corruption (out)

  • This usually occurs on systems running Docker workloads, hence having many non-persistent veth interfaces configured
