squid-4.15-7.module+el8.9.0+20806+014d88aa.3 and squid-5.5-6.el9_3.2 crashes when acting as a proxy server with a parent peer

Issue

  • When using squid as a proxy server with a parent peer, squid-4.15-7.module+el8.9.0+20806+014d88aa.3 or squid-5.5-6.el9_3.2 crashes from time to time with the following message

    assertion failed: peer_digest.cc:xxx: "fetch->pd && receivedData.data"

    or

    [...] squid[XXX]: Squid Parent: squid-1 process XXX exited due to signal 6 with status 0
[...] squid[XXX]: Squid Parent: (squid-1) process XXX started
