Issue

  • Adding an IPv4 IP address does not send ARP or GARP
  • ip addr add or ifconfig INTERFACE ADDRESS do not ARP out to update remote neighbour tables
  • We need to run arping to manually update remote system ARP table

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Secondary IP address, either added manually or as clustered IP resource
