Soft lockup and hung tasks with [vmwgfx] vGPU driver
Issue
VMware guest using desktop GUI stopped responding and later crashed/rebooted.
Environment
- VMware guest using desktop GUI
- Mesa EGL library using the
[vmwgfx]kernel driver- (reported on Gnome wayland session but others may likely be prone as well)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.5, kernel-4.18.0-348.2.1.el8_5
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.5, kernel-4.18.0-348.20.1.el8_5
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.0, kernel-5.14.0-70.22.1.el9_0
