Will a package I use in EPEL 6 be in the next release of EPEL 7?

Solution In Progress - Updated -

Environment

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7

Issue

I currently use a package in the Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repository for use with RHEL 6. Will this same package be in EPEL 7 for use with RHEL 7?

Resolution

EPEL (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) is a volunteer-based community effort sponsored by the Fedora Project to create a repository of high-quality add-on packages that complement Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

When a Beta release of RHEL becomes publicly available, maintainers of EPEL packages are notified and given the opportunity to build their packages for the new RHEL release. Packages are not automatically built for a new EPEL branch (because the project is led by community-led volunteers).

If you are interested in a specific EPEL package being available for a new release, you should contact the maintainer of the package. To find the maintainer of a package, use the Fedora Package Database system:

https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb

Please note that EPEL maintainers are volunteers and not obligated to maintain a branch for a new RHEL release. If the maintainer does not provide a new branch of an EPEL package, you may wish to join the EPEL effort to help maintain the package.
