Issue

  • The smbpasswd command failed to add user when ldapsam_compat option is used in samba on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.  The ldapsam_compact option is used cause the ldap server has older samba.schema. 
        # smbpasswd -a testuser
        New SMB password:
        Retype new SMB password:
        Failed to add entry for user testuser.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • samba-3.5.10-115.el6_2
