Why is server throwing "Error: openpty: No such file or directory." while trying to log in via ssh or terminal?

Issue

  • "test" user is unable to login on the system using ssh command.
  • /var/log/secure contains following error messages.
Dec 15 10:02:04  sshd[23608]: error: openpty: No such file or directory
Dec 15 10:02:04  sshd[23608]: error: session_pty_req: session 0 alloc failed
  • Sometimes remote ssh terminal hangs.
